BHUTAN BY ROAD FROM INDIA
Start your Bhutan trip by road.
For many Indian travellers, entering through Jaigaon and Phuentsholing is a practical alternative to flying into Paro.
THE WESTERN GATEWAY
Jaigaon → Phuentsholing → Thimphu.
Phuentsholing is one of Bhutan’s official road entry points from India and is convenient for trips to western Bhutan. Travellers often reach the border from Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri railway station, then continue into Bhutan after completing the entry formalities.
Bhutan currently lists four official road entry points from India: Samtse, Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar.
Enter at Phuentsholing
Complete the permit/SDF process if it has not already been arranged.
Continue into western Bhutan
Travel north with a guide and vehicle toward Thimphu, Punakha and Paro.
Choose how to return
Return by road, or finish near Paro airport and fly out.
BRINGING YOUR OWN VEHICLE

Current official guidance says Indian vehicles may enter subject to fees and documentation. We would re-check the latest rules before confirming your trip.
